Heidelberg University wins the IBFD/KU Leuven International Tax Moot Court Competition
Last week, IBFD and KU Leuven cooperated to organize the 21st International and European Tax Moot Court Competition, held in Belgium.

Twenty teams were selected from universities around the world to participate in the competition, with the sixteen highest-ranked teams from the written phase advancing to the Oral rounds. These teams engaged in fierce competition, arguing a fictitious case involving the highly technical issues related to Permanent Establishment and Digital Service Taxes.
IBFD provided the case, as well as the arbitrators (Pasquale Pistone, Sergio Messina, and Pedro Schoueri) and several judges (Joanna Wheeler, Jan de Goede, Luis Nouel, and Ivan Lazarov) to ensure a fair competition.
All teams were extremely well prepared, leading to a truly high-level competition. In an exciting and final, Heidelberg University (Germany) emerged victorious, defeating the University of Virginia School of Law (US).

As an integral part of this long-standing Moot Court tradition, IBFD takes great pride in contributing our expertise and representatives to nurture the future generation of tax specialists. We are delighted to showcase our expertise and commitment through this esteemed competition.
We eagerly anticipate the 22nd edition next year, for which we will continue to provide our valued collaboration and support. For more information on the annual competition, see here.
