UN Subcommittee Meeting held at IBFD Headquarters!
We were privileged to host a meeting of the UN Subcommittee on the Taxation of the Digitalized and Globalized Economy from 7-9 August 2023.
The meeting was – as a so-called closed meeting – exclusively attended by members of the UN Tax Committee, along with representatives of the UN secretariat and invited consultants working on one of the workstreams of the Subcommittee.
These important workstreams include: a UN fast-track instrument to amend existing tax treaties, the physical presence tests in taxation and the taxation of remote workers.
The meeting of the Subcommittee was chaired by Liselott Kana, a member and co-chair of the UN Tax Committee and member of our Board of Trustees. It was attended in person by 13 members of the Subcommittee, as well as two persons from the UN secretariat and one external consultant, Philip Baker, also a member of our Board of Trustees, whereas several other members participated via livestream.
Belema Obuoforibo, member of our Executive Board, welcomed the Subcommittee on behalf of the Board, and Jan de Goede, IBFD liaison officer for cooperation with the UN, together with Bart Kosters, from our Tax Services Department, presented an overview of our products and services as well as the long-standing cooperation between the UN and IBFD, including the substantial relevant research done by IBFD for the benefit of the UN. After this presentation, IBFD staff left the further closed meeting. Belema also hosted a dinner for the participants of the meeting and some selected IBFD staff members.
As the meeting concluded, Liselott Kana conveyed her gratitude on behalf of the Subcommittee and the UN secretariat to IBFD for the successful hosting. This event reaffirms our global aspiration to be recognized as “the home of international taxation”.
