In its White Paper on Pensions, the European Commission came up with proposals to strengthen the pension systems across Europe, including the revision of the IORP Directive. These proposals for new regulation should take into account the differences between the national pension systems. Financial market regulation impacts pension funds, as well. EMIR and AIFMD may serve as very relevant examples thereof. The authors consider the impact of these various European initiatives impacting pension funds.
